USDA Crop Production Report

USDA’s Crop Progress report shows the top 18 corn-growing states are now 73 per cent planted, climbing 14 percentage points from last week. This puts the planted corn three per cent below the 5-year average of 76 per cent planted and ahead of the same week last year, which was at 65 per cent planted. The three “I” states – Iowa (84 per cent), Indiana (72 Per cent) and Illinois (84 per cent) – each made significant progress.

Corn emerged is at 34 per cent, up 16 percentage points over last week. This is still under the 5-year average of 42 per cent emerged. Illinois saw strong progress at 60 per cent emerged; Indiana is at 42 per cent emerged and Iowa is lagging behind at 28 per cent emerged.

Soybeans planted sits at 33 per cent, up from last week’s 20 per cent planted but fairly close to the 5-year average of 38 per cent planted.

Cotton planted jumped to 46 per cent, up 16 percentage points over last week and just under the 5-year average of 48 per cent planted.

This week winter wheat condition slipped to 56 percent fair, good, or excellent, which is under last week's at 58 percent fair, good, or excellent.
