- Wrong exercise movement – Sometimes we work but our form is not correct. We bend our knees in the wrong manner, only leading to unbearable pain. So, you must focus on how you are working out. If you are unsure about an exercise movement, do not do it.
- Weight problem – Another major cause of knee pain is that it cannot handle the weight of your upper body. The excess load on your joints causes them stress and puts them at risk of arthritis. So, follow a healthy lifestyle and manage your weight.
If you feel pain in your knees and it is simply not going away, it is time to consult a doctor. Once you go for a physical exam, the doctor will inspect your knee properly. He will check for any kind of swelling, tenderness, pain, visible bruises, or warmth. He will push and pull the joint to check if there is any fracture.
If the case feels severe or there is no proper detection, the doctor might also recommend tests like ultrasound, CT scan, X-ray, or MRI.
In case the doctor feels any kind of inflammation or infection, you will have to go for a blood test. In other cases, you will be recommended for arthrocentesis. This is where some fluid is removed from your knee using a needle. This fluid is then sent to the lab for testing.
Treatment & Self-Management Of Knee Pain
Once your tests are performed, it is time for the treatment.
In normal cases, medicines will be prescribed. This will help in proper treatment for your knee pain and remove the pain. Therapy can also be recommended so that the muscles surrounding your knees can be strengthened. Specific exercises will be explained to you. If you want, a physiotherapist can also be appointed to help you move the muscles.
If needed, your doctor may also recommend injections. These can be hyaluronic acid, corticosteroids, or platelet-rich plasma.
If your knee pain requires surgery, the doctor will suggest it. In maximum cases, immediate surgery is not asked for. So, you can always take a second opinion before deciding.
