21 September 2012

AUSTRALIA - Queensland’s grain champions are set to be recognised at the Queensland Grain Industry Awards, hosted by peak rural lobby group AgForce.

The awards, to be presented at a Gala Dinner in Toowoomba on 30 November 2012, will highlight the top of the crop within Queensland’s grains sector.

AgForce Grains President Wayne Newton said the awards will ensure those who demonstrate commitment and an outstanding contribution to their industry are recognised.

“The grain industry is one that continues to advance at a rapid rate as we strive towards production that is both sustainable and profitable and looks towards the long term future of food production,” Mr Newton said.

“We will be proud to showcase and celebrate innovation, commitment to sustainability and best practice at the upcoming awards.”

The awards are open with the following three categories:

  • 2012 Queensland Grain Grower of the Year Award - ‘Jason Rae Memorial’ - Sponsored by Rabobank
  • 2012 Queensland Grain Industry Emerging Leader
  • 2012 Queensland Grains Innovation Award - Sponsored by Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)

“Growers who nominate will be in the running for significant prizes, including overseas study trips to further their knowledge on ensuring a profitable and sustainable future for the grain industry in Australia,” Mr Newton said.

“We encourage all growers, neighbours, friends and businesses put forward the best and brightest for nomination.”

This year the application process includes a special nomination form to encourage the community to recognise its hard working, passionate and innovative growers.

Nominations for the awards officially opened last week and will close Friday 22 October.
