Maize Crop Damaged By Heavy Winds

NEPAL - Producers of maize across the Darchula district have seen their fields ravaged by heavy winds that have lashed the area this week.

According to, most of the region's maize crop has been destroyed by the adverse weather.

The District Agriculture Office has confirmed that parts of Sheri, Khari, Latinath and nine other states have suffered in the harsh conditions.

Bishnu Adhikari, crop development officer for the agency, told the web site: "Maize cultivated by the farmers in around 650 hectares (1,606 acres) of land has been brought to ground."

He added that, as an immediate solution to farmers, the office would provide vegetable seeds to the affected farmers, while a request for compensation will be made to the government.
