As the US harvest continues ahead of schedule, farmers look ahead to prepare for the 2013 crop year. According to the latest USDA Crop Progress report, corn conditions remained unchanged from last week, with 24 per cent of the crop in good or excellent condition, however this is a 28 per cent decline from a year ago.

Mature corn has reached 94 per cent this week, 22 per cent higher than the five-year average.

More than half of US corn across 18 states is now harvested, more than double the five-year average. Tennessee has almost completed harvest at 92 per cent.

Harvest stages remain mixed across the three "I" states, with Illinois's harvest at 71 per cent, Indiana at 35 per cent and Iowa at 56 per cent. All three "I" states are well ahead of the five-year harvest average.

Corn conditions remain unchanged from last week, however they are hampered by a 28 per cent decline from a year ago, largely caused by the drought.

85 per cent of soybeans across 18 states have now dropped leaves and 41 per cent of soybeans have now been harvested.

Soybean conditions remain largely fair, with 60 per cent considered 'fair' or 'good' across 18 states.
