USDA GAIN: Thailand Weekly Rice Price Update - 18 February 2013

There are no quotations this week due to Lunar New Year holidays. The current MY2012/13 main-crop Paddy Pledging Program, which began on October 1, 2012, and runs until February 28, 2013, has preliminarily received pledges of approximately 9.8 million metric tons (6.5 million metric tons milled equivalent), up around 60 percent from the same period last year. The government will likely begin the pledging program for the MY2012/13 off-season crop soon after the main-crop program is completed as new-crop supplies will be coming onto the market early next month. The details of the program will be finalized in the National Rice Policy Committee meeting next week.
Rice Export Update
Unofficial rice exports (excluding fragrant rice) for February 4-10, 2013 totaled 88,695 metric tons, down 6,013 metric tons from the previous week, and down 4,717 metric tons from the four- week moving average of 93,412 metric tons. Exports of white and parboiled rice from January 1 – February 10, 2013 totaled 510,439 metric tons, up 14.5 percent (445,748 metric tons) from the same period last year.
Total rice exports (including fragrant rice) from January 1 – 31, 2013 amounted to 573,853 metric tons, up 30.5 percent from the same period last year.
