Agricultural Input Price Index up 4.5% in 2012
The agricultural input price index increased by 4.5% in 2012 compared with 2011. The agricultural output price index increased by 3.8% over the same period. Thus, the resulting terms of trade index decreased by 0.7% in 2012.
The most significant price changes year on year were:
- Potatoes (incl. seeds), cereals (incl. seeds), cattle and pigs prices increased by 30.5%, 16.5%, 12.0%, 10.8% respectively, while milk and sheep prices decreased by 9.5% and 4.4%.
- Energy, seeds, feeding stuffs and fertiliser prices increased by 8.2%, 7.3%, 6.3% and 3.0% respectively.
On a monthly comparison, the agricultural output price index in December 2012 was 1.4% higher than in November 2012. The agricultural input price index was up 0.2% in December 2012 compared with November 2012.
