UK Cereals Usage by Millers Brewers & Maltsters - Review of April 2013
This statistical release contains information on the use of cereal grain, flour production and stocks of cereal by these cereal
processors on a monthly and crop year basis (of which Oatmeal Millers is now on a quarterly basis). The flour millers data includes use of wheat for starch and bioethanol production.Key Points for Wheat & Barley
In April 2013 compared with April 2012:
Wheat Usage:
- The total amount of wheat milled was 505 thousand tonnes, up 8%.
- The total amount of home grown wheat milled was 316 thousand tonnes, down 24%.
- The total amount of imported wheat milled was 189 thousand tonnes, up 256%. The poorer quality 2012 UK crop has meant greater use of imported wheat.
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat usage was 59 thousand tonnes, up 4%.
Barley Usage:
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total barley usage was 143 thousand tonnes, down 6%.
Key Points for Oats
In January to March 2013 compared with January to March 2012:
- The total amount of oats milled was 129 thousand tonnes, up 4%.
