UK Cereals Usage by Millers Brewers & Maltsters - July 2013
Key Points for Wheat & Barley in July 2013 compared with July 2012:
Wheat Usage:
- The total amount of wheat milled was 512 thousand tonnes, up 3%.
- The total amount of home grown wheat milled was 325 thousand tonnes, down 26%.
- The total amount of imported wheat milled was 187 thousand tonnes, up 220%. The poorer quality 2012 UK crop has meant greater use of imported wheat.
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat usage was 58 thousand tonnes, up 3%, which reflects continued strong usage with increased demand and additional capacity.
Barley Usage:
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total barley usage was 156 thousand tonnes, up 14%. This increase follows lower use in June.
Key Points for Oats usage in April to June 2013 compared with April to June 2012:
- The total amount of oats milled was 126 thousand tonnes, up 9%.
