USDA GAIN: Thailand Weekly Rice Price - 3 December 2013
TH3112 – Despite an increase in domestic rice prices, most export prices remain unchanged due to the weakening of the Thai baht.Post:
Bangkok
Export prices for most grades of rice remained unchanged from the previous week as the weakening Thai baht offset an increase in domestic rice prices. The Thai baht depreciated to around 32 baht/US$ compared to 31.6 baht/US$ in the previous week. Meanwhile, export prices of parboiled rice increased slightly as exporters are fulfilling their contracts with their Nigerian customers. Thai parboiled rice has become more attractive in recent weeks due to its falling prices vis-à-vis Indian parboiled rice.
Rice Export Update
Unofficial rice exports (excluding premium white rice and fragrant rice) for November 25 – December 1, 2013 totaled 90,034 metric tons, up 29,573 metric tons from the previous week, and up 29,100 metric tons from the four- week moving average of 60,934 metric tons (Table 2). Exports of white and parboiled rice from January 1 through December 1, 2013 totaled 3,020,736 metric tons, down 35 percent from 4,664,480 metric tons in the same period last year, mainly due to a reduction in parboiled rice exports.
Total rice exports (including premium white rice and fragrant rice) from January 1 through November 20, 2013 amounted to approximately 5.7 million metric tons, down 8.1 percent from the same period last year.
