Domestic and export prices declined 1 to 2 percent due to more sales of government rice stocks. The government is expected to conduct a new tender via the Agricultural Future Exchange of Thailand totaling 156,654 metric tons using stocks from its MY2012/13 Main-Crop Rice Paddy Program. The Friday, December 20, 2013 tender will consist of 139,229 metric tons of 5% grade white rice and 17,425 metric tons of fragrant rice for deliveries sometime during February through April 2014.
Rice Export Update
Unofficial rice exports (excluding premium white rice and fragrant rice) for December 9-15, 2013 totaled 71,768 metric tons, down 25,310 metric tons from the previous week and down 8,068 metric tons from the four- week moving average of 79,836 metric tons (Table 2). Exports of white and parboiled rice from January 1 through December 15, 2013 totaled 3,189,581 metric tons, down 34 percent from 4,795,083 metric tons in the same period last year, mainly due to a reduction in parboiled rice exports.
Total rice exports (including premium white rice and fragrant rice) from January 1 through November 20, 2013 amounted to approximately 5.7 million metric tons, down 8.1 percent from the same period last year.
