USDA GAIN Report - Oilseeds, Cotton, Sugar, Grain and Feed

Export prices remained unchanged from the previous week. The military government still allows exporters to fulfill the pending shipments by using rice from sales of government stocks which were approved before the coup. Meanwhile, the inspection of the government’s rice stocks is underway. The Ministry of Commerce is seeking approval from the military government to appoint the new National Rice Policy Committee this week to review its new domestic support measure on rice.

As of June 8, 2014, the government reportedly received approximately 11.6 million metric tons of main-crop rice paddy (7.7 million metric milled equivalent – Table 2) under the MY2013/14 Main-Crop Rice Paddy Pledging Program that costs around 193 billion baht ($6 billion). The BAAC has reportedly paid approximately 148 billion baht ($4.6 billion) in loans to 1.2 million rice farmers for 9 million metric tons of pledges (5.9 million metric tons milled equivalent). The remainder is expected to be paid by June 20, 2014.

Rice Export Update

Preliminary unofficial rice exports (excluding premium white and fragrant rice) for June 2-8, 2014 totaled 138,853 metric tons, down 6,993 metric tons from the previous week and up 8,978 metric tons from the four- week moving average of 129,875 metric tons (Table 3). Rice exports from January 1 – June 8, 2014 totaled 1,918,736 metric tons, up 22 percent from the same period last year.
