The USDA shows that corn silking is strong in the southern states, with the central corn belt starting to move into silking.

Corn silking is strongest in Tennessee this week, with 86 per cent silking. North Carolina is close behind, showing 85 per cent silking.

Iowa is trailing behind Indiana and Illinois at 16 per cent, while the other two "I" states show 30 per cent and 46 per cent silking, respectively.

Corn conditions remain exceptional in Pennsylvania with 26 per cent considered 'excellent' and 42 per cent classed as in 'good' condition.

Overall corn conditions are showing signs of decline, with 40 per cent classed as 'good' and 30 per cent considered 'fair' across 18 states.

Soybeans blooming is showing a huge increase in contrast to one year ago, up from seven per cent in July 2011, to 26 per cent across 18 states this week.

Soybean conditions are down slightly on last week, with 39 per cent considered in 'good' condition, a fall from 53 per cent one year ago.
