Irish CSO Reports Agricultural Price Indices - May 2012
The agricultural output price index decreased by 1.9% in May 2012 compared with
April 2012.The agricultural input price index increased by 0.7% over the same period. Thus, the resulting terms of trade index decreased by 2.7% in May 2012. See Tables 1a, 2a and graph. [For tables, please download the document]


The seasonally adjusted output price index in May 2012 was 2.6% lower than in
April 2012. See Table 3.
On an annual comparison, the agricultural output price index in May 2012 was
1.8% higher than in May 2011. The agricultural input price index was up 2.0% in
May 2012 compared with May 2011.
A further comparison of the May 2012 sub-indices with May 2011 shows that:
- Poultry, cattle and egg prices increased by 20.8%, 14.7% and 10.0% respectively, while sheep, potatoes (incl. seeds) and milk decreased by 18.9%, 15.9% and 12.1%. See Tables 1a and 1b.
- Energy, seeds and fertiliser prices increased by 8.4%, 7.7% and 3.2% respectively. See Tables 2a and 2b.
