According to the latest USDA Crop Progress report, corn and soybean conditions worsened slightly this week, with early corn harvest picking up pace in the Central states.

Corn conditions worsened slightly in the 18 states, with 52 per cent of corn being in very poor to poor condition.

This is a 33 per cent increase on this time last year.

Condition of corn in the three "I" states continues to be poor to very poor. In Illinois only four per cent of the crop is considered to be in good condition, with none of the crop being seen as excellent. Indiana doesn't fair much better with nine per cent of the crop in good condition and Iowa has 14 per cent in good condition.

In the South, Texas in on target with harvest, having harvested 56 per cent of its crop.

Across the 18 states six per cent has been harvested, four per cent more than the five year average. Harvests are particularly early in Kansas, Kentucky and Missouri suggesting whole cropping or other use.

As for soybeans, conditions in the 18 states deteriorated slightly, with 17 per cent of the crop in very poor condition, compared to only five per cent in poor condition a year ago.
