While brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat and oats usage were up, total barley usage was down in December 2011.Key Points of Wheat and Barley
In December 2011 compared with December 2010:
Wheat Usage:
- The total amount of wheat milled was 545 thousand tonnes, down 8%.
- The total amount of home grown wheat milled was 478 thousand tonnes, down 8%.
- The total amount of imported wheat milled was 67 thousand tonnes, down 7%.
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat usage was 53 thousand tonnes, up 53%.
Barley Usage:
- Brewers, maltsters and distillers total barley usage was 149 thousand tonnes, down 1%.
Key Points of Oats
In October to December 2011 compared with October to December 2010:
Oats Usage:
- The total amount of oats milled was 112 thousand tonnes, up 2%.
